Aros castle ruins is 'in the garden' along with a gate that takes you directly to a secluded/private bay. Maggie has chickens which are comical to watch and produce the tastiest eggs. Again due to it's location you are central for everything yet away from the visiting crowds/tour buses etc. Great friendly reasonably sized and priced Spar close by, along with Tobermory fish shop (highly recommended) and places to eat. We loved Maggies place so much we were so sad to leave so booked for next year before we left.

We spent one week at Aros Mains apartment in August with our two children aged 13 and 11 and fell absolutely in love with the place. It has a quirky charm, is spacious, furnished with taste and equipped to a high standard. Maggie is the most wonderful host. There is space outside for the children to roam, including a ruin of a 13th century castle and a secluded beach. The views from the apartment are spectacular. The weather during our stay was mixed, and so we appreciated the location which is quiet yet relatively close to Tobermory with its shops and cafés. We liked our stay so much that we would like to come back again.

My husband and I have just returned from a 4 nights stay on the Isle of Mull. We stayed at Castle Cottage during that time – a very clean, warm, comfortable and well-equipped cottage spread across 2 levels, plus we were able to park our car right at the cottage door. On the day of arrival we met Maggie’s daughter who was very friendly and helpful (we didn’t get to meet Maggie – she’s a busy lady!). Wifi/mobile signal was excellent. The cottage is situated slightly off the beaten track along a twisty country lane, but it’s only half a mile from the main road, so it didn’t cause a problem at all as it just made the area around the cottage very peaceful. Aros Mains is in an ideal central position between Craignure and Tobermory, and a good base to get around the whole island. There are many single track roads in the area, but there are many passing places too, so never a big issue. We were also lucky in that the weather for 90% of the time was glorious so we got to see Mull at it’s best – stunning scenery. We would also like to thank Maggie and her family for their hospitality. We will highly recommend this accommodation to our friends and family.

I am usually quite critical having been involved in the catering /tourism industry for years but I cannot find fault with this particular package. Care has been taken to ensure our comfort - warm, clean and welcoming accommodation and, best of all, a wonderfully balanced approach in making us feel at home - never intrusive yet attentive. This latter blend is an art!! We shall return and recommend Aros Mains with great pleasure.

Tucked away just past Salen (and 15 minutes from Tobermory) on the coast Castle Steadings at Aros Mains is a true gem and not to be missed. We stayed in cottage 2 - sleeping 5 in 3 bedrooms - all to a simple but good standard. Great lounge dining kitchen area - nice wooden floor, flat screen TV for those (inevitable!) wet scottish days, ipod dock and ipod !! plus good selection of DVDs etc tucked away, and the deal clincher in the kitchen a dishwasher. Great views of the sound of Mull towards Salen past the old castle. Otters on show at the right times just 5 minutes walk down the hill. Maggie and her family are wonderful and only too willing to be helpful - we can all endorse the quality of the home made scones. The cottages location is perfect - 15 minutes to Tobermory, about the same to the Craignure ferry - significant stretches of which are the only bits of two way road on the Island - get used to passing places! Good restaurants in Salen (medeterrian) and Tobermoray (Cafe Fish), and also further away near Penmore by Dervaig (the Am Birlinn - definitely worth a visit). I havent even started on the extensive wildlife - just to say on one day we saw 3 pairs of golden eagles!!!! Enjoy your stay.
